Have found out a couple of tips from friend at work who knows Dublin well. For live music there is The Brazen Head which is the oldest pub in Dublin and has live Irish music every day...recommended by all the taxi drivers there apparently.It's short walk from the Gate theatre and also Comfort Inn and Cassidy's Hotel.Grafton street is the place to shop with smart shops etc.Apparently taking the Tour Bus is a must as it's cheap and goes all round Dublin...you can get on and off where you like..rejoining the bus as you like...open top and tour guide tells you all about the surroundings.A taxi from the airport to Gate theatre area is about 18 euros (about £13) All pubs etc are non smoking as you probably know and you can only smoke if you are at least 15 feet away from these establishments.
