Maxine's Take on JC 04-24-05                                                             Back Page 2< | Next Page>4

Happy fans go see Ralph Fiennes in Julius CaesarI sat waiting for the play and soaked up the atmosphere.
The place is quite big but the seating roomy. I was in row E22 about 5 isles back smack bang in the middle.
There was a white sort of curtain draped to cover the view sparsley of behind the scenes. Also some atmospheric noises sort of like a very low rumble of symbles and things gently pitching up and down.

The play started and it was passionaltey played out by the two men who played Brutus and Cassias....[they were quite little men actually but there acting was great].

Ralph came running on in a crowd scene dresed in the running suit shown on the forum pics this week. Who looks lene but not hungry looking LOL He played his parts 100% as usual...no stone unturned with Ralph. He smiled alot too in these early scenes.

I think really he could have been a dancer...he seems very elagant at times. The crowd scenes when Caesar is around rallying his people are very affective. Modern dress and everything. Ralph's skin as ever [wish i had binoculars] was luminescent and beautiful. However for me he seemed dwarfed by the stage and the other players...but tha's me for you. I like Ralph to have the central roles ALL the time.

He was'nt so lit up as he was in Brand and Talking Cure but to watch him in a [if very long] Shakespear play is a true treat for any Ralph fan or Shakespear fan come to that.

There were a few what i would call "shocking scenes" which were very well acted acted and powerful.

Anybody coming to see Ralph will have a treat in this productuion but for me personally i prefer a smaller stage and fewer actors. The stage was huge and i sometimes felt i could'nt see Ralph as well as i might have done at the other theatres. But i am talking from a personal point of view. I was transfixed as ever but if Ralph was not there.......i might not have enjoyed it as much. They got a great response from the audience btw they really enjoyed.

I hope i have helped give an idea of the plays atmosphere. No doubt the other ladies will fill in any gaps. Btw i met the ladies at the very end as i could not see them. They said Ralph was in a hurry to get home. I can see that after two performances in one day of this play it would drain any actor.

I am fortunate enough to be seeing the production again in two weeks and then 14th may both productions.

All in all i enjoyed but for me Brand and Talking Cure so far have been my favourite productions.

Love Maxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Stella's Story 04-25-05

Well, what can I say? What a weekend. I haven't had such a great time for ages. The play is fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Every performance is sold out and its a big theatre, must hold a thousand. RF was superb. Nell - I understand the fascination with SRB (might even become a closet fan) he is not recognised enough for his huge talent. The cast, amazing Fiona Shaw (aka Mrs Dursley from Harry Potter) was very good. Anton Lesser's performance was impressive. So many faces recognised from TV shows here.

I know you all want to hear about the stage door.;ok Friday night, not too many people there (saw Thalita lurking behind a pillar) lets just say wait till you get to see the footage Mr Honey took !!!!!!!

Its no good, I'm just too tired. Sorry if its all a bit dis-jointed, will write more tomorrow. Oh, Saul Zaentz was there too.

Sugarpaste Weighs In on JC 04-25-05

Hello Ladies..what a fantastic weekend i had..... and Ralph is looking pretty darn hot,i just loved him with his hair like that..Phwooorrr!!!!
Unfortunately Crinne ,exactly the same thing happened again at stage door(not quite on the level of Brand),i could not get anywhere near him .there were too many people,in fact ralph nearly walked into me twice, but i just moved put of the way he was in a hurry ,but he did sign some autographs and pose for some pics (bless him),but he never spoke to anyone,he was just dying to get in the taxis,i just wish i could have been there friday night when the other forumers said he was relaxed and chatty,i have learned my lesson no end this time,i will definetly go midweek to see the next London play, saturday night is just the worst time for stage door.
This is the first time since my first ralph in Encounter back in 2000 that:

A. I am only going to see the play once
B. I didnt get Ralphs autograph
C. I didnt get a single pic of Ralph (not throught lack of trying i can tell ya)
ok so i should think myself lucky i went at all.

Anyway i struggled a little with the play, but then i am not great at shakespeare, some parts i really got drawn into and absolutely loved and other times i could have fallen asleep, there was a hell of a lot of dialogue to keep up with ( at least i didnt snore like the person behind Honey LOL!),i loved Ralph's entrance,it was really light hearted and so unlike any way i have seen ralph perform on stage before.but he didnt kiss any of the extras, which i was watching carefully for,i really liked the concept of it and it was quite loud in places.
Now this may upset a few people but i didnt really like SRB,his words just mingled into one,i had to really concentrate when he was speaking...but i did like the guy who played Ceaser, thought he was great.
all in all i would say this has been my least favourite of all the Ralph plays...but then maybe it has something to do with the fact he didnt have a major role as such.or it was a little long or just that i was still feeling a little ill,i dont know?

I am so glad i got to see ya Max and gigi,a pity we didnt get more time to chat....... even if stage door once again was dissapointing,at least i had a good laugh and the chance to meet some wonderful people....Honey and hubby you are the best...and of course where would i be without Stella..Ermmm sleeping in a bed on my own!!!
