ANNETTE BENING TO SPICE THINGS UP WITH A SEXY ROLE:
Saucy Hollywood actress ANNETTE BENING is set to appear in one of
the steamiest films of her career - with RALPH FIENNES and ROBERT
DOWNEY JR. Bening, who is married to WARREN BEATTY, is starring
in THE END OF THE AFFAIR, based on a novel by GRAEME GREENE. An
insider on the film says, "Annette plays a married woman who
has an active sex life with her lover and her husband."
Can I just say yuck, yuck, yuck. Can't RF get a no-Benning clause written into this one! I predict the chemistry will be like too fishes rubbing together. Not too pretty. Sorry, just a gut reaction..Besides isn't there some unwritten Hollywood rule about playing two movies with the word "Affair" in them. I mean hello Annette, ever heard of type casting!--Bos

7-22-98- Article about Sunshine from Jewish Telegraph Agency
Shooting begins for film on Hungarian Jewish family
By Tom Tugend
LOS ANGELES, July 19 (JTA) -- Filming has started in
Budapest on a movie in which Ralph Fiennes plays the parts of
three Jews in a multi-generational saga.
The triple role in ``The Taste of Sunshine" represents a
major ethnic switch for the British actor, who brought the
sadistic Nazi concentration commander Amon Goeth to life in
``Schindler's List."
Fiennes won an Academy Award nomination for that performance, and
a second one for the title role in ``The English Patient."
The new film centers on the Sonnenschein family, which rises from
humble beginnings to positions of wealth and power in the
crumbling Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Fiennes plays three of the Sonnenscheins, which is German for
sunshine.
The patriarch, Ignatz, becomes a prominent judge but is torn when
his government sanctions anti-Jewish persecutions. His son, Adam,
converts to Christianity to advance his career as a champion
fencer and Olympic hero, but is caught up in the Holocaust.
Finally, Ivan, Adam's son, after surviving war, revolution, loss
and betrayal, realizes that his ultimate allegiance must be to
himself and his heritage.
The film's Hungarian director, Istvan Szabo, who co-wrote the
original screenplay with American playwright Israel Horovitz, won
an Oscar for ``Mephisto,'' which was voted best foreign film in
1981.
Also starring in the film are Jennifer Ehle, Rachel Weisz, Molly
Parker, William Hurt, Rosemary Harris, Miriam Margolyes and James
Frain.
Shooting will continue through the summer and fall in Budapest,
as well as in Vienna and Berlin. No completion or release date
has been set, according to a spokeswoman for Toronto-based
Alliance Communications Corp., which
is producing the film.

FIENNES IN LOVE STORY Ralph Fiennes is
negotiating to star in "The End of the Affair," a film
based on a Graham Greene novel that has the romance of "The
English Patient" with a bit more steaminess. Variety says
the story, which takes place during the London Blitz, revolves
around a man and woman who endure a cold marriage until the wife
falls for one of her husband's dear friends, a writer played by
Fiennes. The writer and the woman have a brief, passionate
affair, which she ends abruptly. The lover later discovers that
the woman has made a pact with God that if the Almighty spares
her lover from a particularly bad bombing raid, she would agree
never to see him again.

7/18/98-Funny Article in Sydney Morning Herald about Redheads, mentions RF... (perhaps an interesting take on what color RF prefers as opposed to it's original color, which no one seems to know...)
"... There are so many fabulous, beautiful role models out there, the average orangie must take heart. Gillian Anderson, Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman are all sexy, talented redheads; as are Eric Stoltz and, occasionally, Ralph Fiennes. Rita Hayworth, Lucille Ball and Julie Andrews paved the way for the auburn glow of Bette Midler and Shirley MacLaine. Ade Edmondson - Vyvyan from " Click here to Read more...

J. Peterman Captures
"The Avengers"; J. Peterman to Sell Reproductions of
Costumes and Props from Warner Bros. Film Based on Popular
British Spy Series of the 1960s
Wednesday, July 15 7:03 AM
ET
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ENTERTAINMENT WIRE) - In the wake of tremendous
public response to its sale of original and reproduced costumes
and props from the 20th Century Fox film "Titanic," The
J. Peterman Co. has announced an agreement with Warner Bros. to
offer reproductions of the clothing and selected hard goods from
the upcoming Warner Bros. summer release, "The
Avengers," starring Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman and Sean
Connery.
Few spy serials have had as widespread and enduring popularity as
the original TV series "The Avengers," a
quintessentially British program starring Patrick Macnee as
secret service agent John Steed and a succession of three female
co-stars, including Diana Rigg as Emma Peel.
The slightly tongue-in-cheek action/adventure series launched in
Britain in 1961 and reached U.S. audiences through ABC Television
from 1966 to 1969.
"The program took the mystique of espionage and gave it a
wardrobe replete with sophistication and refined style,"
said Arnie Cohen, president of The J. Peterman Co. "We view
'The Avengers' as an opportunity to bring the romance and fashion
of this period to an entirely new audience."
Items available through the J. Peterman catalog and retail stores
include John Steed's (Fiennes) signature blue pinstripe
three-piece suit with a unique horizontal-striped vest, his green
velvet smoking jacket with frog closures, a black bowler; Emma
Peel's (Thurman) zippered black cat suit, her three-piece mint
suede outfit, her pink two-piece coat dress with matching skirt,
her three- piece lounging pajamas set; and arch-enemy Sir August
deWynter's (Connery) black velvet two-piece suit with shirt, tie
and pocket square, and three-piece cream single-breast suit, with
accompanying shirt tie and suspenders.
"The Avengers" items will be available exclusively
through The J. Peterman Co. starting in August.
The J. Peterman Co., a privately owned mail-order and retail
company, sells upscale unique, romantic and authentic
furnishings, apparel and gift items. The company publishes such
catalogs as its original "Owner's Manual,"
"Peterman's Eye" and the holiday "Gift Book."
All J. Peterman catalogs are complimentary and can be requested
by calling 800/231-7341 or by visiting the company on the World
Wide Web at http://www.jpeterman.com.

"The high-profile company, founded by David Geffen, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg, had announced that its first animated film would be "Prince of Egypt," a retelling of the Moses story, set to open Dec. 18. That film has stirred extraordinary attention in Hollywood, partly because it is viewed as Katzenberg's personal creation after making some hugely successful animated movies at Walt Disney Co., where he was studio chairman. Those films included "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin" and "The Lion King."
"Prince of Egypt,"
with voices by Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Steve Martin,
Helen Mirren, Michelle Pfeiffer and others, was viewed as a
challenge to Disney's hegemony in animation."

"L.A. is still one of the better places for radio drama, thanks to the likes of L.A. Theatre Works and the FM station KCRW. The BBC still puts on interesting productions, some of which find their way into commercial release on BBD, such as, recently, Shaw's "Man and Superman," with Ralph Fiennes and Juliet Stevenson. And for all cable's zillion stations, for all Hollywood's zillon-dollar special effects, radio drama, be it super-silly or utterly profound, still has its fanatics. I know, I'm one of them.
