The Maids in Manhattan Tour-Spring 2004

Mary K, Elena (aka Lenacka on the forum), Stella, and Katherine Y. all met up in New York, to visit the infamous locations from Maid in Manhattan. From the rocks of central park, paper clips in hand, to the shady bench lined paths, to the Penguin House of the zoo, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art...we did it all. Joined by Mary's trusty friend Joe, and her son Cole, it was a fun packed day of surprises and joy. Mary, Joe, and Elena learned just how small the world really is. Follow their story in photos, and in their commentaries from the forum.

Elena's Take on the trip

Jackie, it was quite the opposite...a very unexpected thing happenned. The meet-up included a shocking surprise, in a positive way. I am still a little shocked and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to write about it, because it (the surprise) doesn't have anything to do with a Ralph related event. But, since you asked (and Crepuscle), I will share a bit about the surprise on Saturday. I'll leave the rest for Mary K. & Stella to post.

To make a long story short, Mary K. & I discovered that we have met each other before, in college, and that she and I have a friend in common, who joined us on Saturday. This friend & I lost touch after college, but we were in business school together and lived on the same floor our first year of college.

When Katherine & I approached the rest of the group, I immediately recognized this friend, as he was standing with Mary K. Then, I remembered him introducing Mary K. to me during our freshman year.

I had a terrific time meeting Stella, seeing Katherine again, meeting Mary's son and especially talking with Mary K. & "catching up" with the friend I lost touch with, who lives in NYC.

One of the other highlights was meeting Mary K's son, who made such an impression on me. He gave me a big hug when I first met him, sat on my lap in the restaurant after we finished lunch & held my hand when we walked outside. He is an adorable little boy - I wanted to take him home with me!

I had to leave after lunch and go back to work while everyone went to the zoo. I didn't want to leave

Truly gives meaning to the phrase, it is a small world! I'm sure this is not the story you were expecting.

Elena

Katherine's Story
Hi

As Elena and Shammy already wrote on Saturday's meeting, It was very nice to see Mary K, Elena again and meet Stella, most of all, meeting Mary K's beautiful, adorable son was highlight! He is so beautiful, adorable and absolutely will grow up as heartbreaker!
He gave me big hug when I met him! So sweet!
and very well mannered, Mary K brought him up very well!
We had a nice lunch together and after that we went to visit Central park for well, not my favorite but OK, we did sort of MIM tour, stood in front of Rock(not 100% sure if this is the rock where RF filmed with J-LO and young actor who played her son) anyway, we took picture holding paper clips:-) and then head for Zoo, Stella found small Stuffed Penguin(not quite same one as on movie)and we visited real penguins at Zoo, just like in the movie, difference between real Zoo and the movie is Real Zoo it is very small Penguin section where they kept in dark place in small watertank whereas in the movie, it looked very bright and hugh tank, oh well I can only say, it is movie magic, and I had to leave.
I mentioned Mary K and Stella to visit Wardolf Hotel and Met museum where the benefit galla dance event filmed and especially after the event where RF ran to catch J-Lo's charecter,
Seriously, New York city is much more than that! it can offer best of everything, culture - music, theater, dance, art, restaurant, you name it.
So I hope they enjoyed here best can enjoy.

Best,
Katherine

More from Elena...

Stella, LOL about the penguins! I'm sad that I didn't get to see them...even if they smelled...I would just breathe through my mouth.

Like Katherine mentioned, Mary K.'s son was very well mannered for his age. He is a charmer; I told Mary K. she'll have to fight off the girls with a stick when he is older. He even pronounces "Rafe" perfectly
I've always been an animal lover, but I noticed that recently, within the last year or so, I have been more interested in children. I want to give them more attention now. The biological clock may have started to tick.

Yes, everyone, the surprise was more than I could expect...it is right out of the Twilight Zone. But, I've had strange things happen before in my life, although this one, takes the cake. It feels like it was meant to be. Can you imagine if I wasn't able to make the meet-up on Saturday and we would have never known, at least until I met Mary K. in the future sometime.

Mary K's Version

Dear All,
Im not yet at home, but will be there tomorrow. Just wanted to say that I also had a wonderful time seeing Katherine again, and "meeting" Elena. It was truly hilarious that my friend from college who was there knew her on sight, as they were friends after I transferred away from that university. I remember Elena at school studying away in the lounge

As soon as I'm home tomorrow, I will get the pics of us on our tour up for you all to see. It was so funny, a passerby offered to take a pic of us all up on the rock...she must have thought we were absolutely crazy holding those paperclips...but it's New York City...nothing is strange there.

We all had a great time at the Central Park Zoo, and later we saw the benches where Stella said I needed to reenact the magazine to butt scene and I said...no way. On Sunday we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw the locations where they shot MIM.

I wish Cole's (my son)internet aunties had been there to help me keep his hands off the thousand year old Egyptian statues, or from running through the galleries, or from shouting to hear himself echo in the hall of armor...hehe...he was definitely "acting" for them when they met him...hehe. Thanks to Elena and Katherine for their compliments on him...but he really is a little devil. But if Stella and I have anything to say about it, he's definitely RADA bound in about 15 years.

All in all it was a wonderful time and can't wait to meet other forum members in future travels. And it definitely is a very small world.

Thanks,
Mary K.

Stella's Last Two Cents

J ust a quick 'HI' to you all, will write more when i can.
The zoo is 6 dollars and the penguins are very smelly.
