Katherine's Review- December 6, 2002

Hello Gigi and everyone! Just got back from London, it was really good trip and I enjoyed tremendously my stay there! I saw 3 plays - TC, Vortex(Noel Coward's play with FA - she was wonderful!) and Breath of Life with Judi Dench and Maggie Smith! Not so shabby!
I went to see TC absolutely no idea! not like Hamlet, Richard II, Corialunis, I read Carl Jung's "Memories, Dreams, Reflections" just try to understand Jung's work better but didn't know anything about this play.
Gigi and I arrived theater earlier and checked where actors come out after play etc.
We had a good seat - 5th row in a small theater!
RF comes out on stage! and it was bit of shock - he had a short hair between Ben Kingley and Matt Lauer(I think everyone knows by now)and GLASSES and mustache, wearing early 20th century typical mens custom - suit with vest- I have seen Jung's picture and that is pretty close to Jung
Usually when RF appears on stage, you can't take eyes off from him, but this was different role he is playing, he is doctor - psychoanalysist - who listen to his patience so he is rather passive charecter, at least for 1st act.
Visually it was bit of shock to me as I have this image on my head with RF as always brooding, smouldering romantic image, I fought with that,
and he also spoke very softly, low-key, on the other hand, all other actors spoke loud and act passionately. 2nd Act was much better and RF's charecter showed more emotions and I was beginning to understand better on Jung's emotions and sturggle.
Stage setting was fantastic and very very clever!
It has 3 levels and very effective! each level shows different room, key places - clinic, Jung's house, study, patient bed, Sabina's apartment, etc, and moving staircase which constantly actors walking from top to bottom, especialoy RF walking way up high stairs to bottom which made me so nervous, worrying he will trip and hurt himself! and saw one step he was shaking and holding on the rail! And like Gigi said, no naked RF! couple of love scenes but all fully clothed sorry to be spoiler! All actors were good especially Judhi May who played Sabina, first Patient, lover and later Psychoanalysist herself. This is play definitely need more than one viewing! After few days thinking and digesting, I come to terms with better understanding and appreciation of RF as an actor,
Best part is after the play Gigi and I and dozen other fans waiting freezing outside, he came out and very nice and warm,(I was worried if he will be in grumpy mood as this is first performance and usually actors, performers can be very moody)he signed and smiled, I took few pictures, and must tell you, his short hair, mustache does not look bad at all in person, he looked very good, beautiful as always! Got really good personalized autograph!
